Wishing Path: Art of Wishes — Restoring Space and Uniting the Community

Thanks to the support of GCVS (Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector) through the Glasgow Wellbeing Fund, the organisation ProUA Hub is actively implementing a creative mental wellbeing project entitled "Wishing Path: Art of Wishes".

Our goal is to bring together Springburn residents (North Glasgow), displaced Ukrainians who have found refuge here, and local volunteers through art, mindfulness, and collaborative effort.

Together, we are transforming a cosy corner of Springburn Park into a vibrant "Avenue of Wishes", where 12 restored and beautifully painted benches will represent universal human values: Health, Peace, Love, Hope, and Gratitude.

🛠 First Steps: Bench Restoration & Partner Support

The project is gathering momentum! We have already achieved significant results during the initial preparation stage, Restoration & Art in the Park:

  • Cleaning and Preparation: We have conducted 5 sessions dedicated to cleaning the benches and stripping away old, peeling paint. As part of these sessions, 2 hands-on workshops were held focusing on cleaning, sanding, and sealing. Between 2 and 7 active volunteers joined each meeting. Thanks to their perseverance and hard work, the preparation of the wooden and metal elements is almost complete!

  • Repairs & Structural Assistance: One of the benches has been partially repaired. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our friendly partner organisation, Men's Shed, for their expert repair assistance and outstanding craftsmanship!

  • Painting Started: We have already begun applying the base coat of paint to some of the benches, bringing us one step closer to their artistic transformation.

🌧 Challenges along the way

The restoration process has not been without its hurdles. The benches are very old, and some of them are nearly falling to pieces. On top of that, frequent rainy weather constantly interferes with outdoor work. Nevertheless, despite all these obstacles, we are moving forward with confidence and determination!

🎨 What Awaits Participants Next?

  • Artistic Painting of 12 Benches: Decorating each bench with unique, thematic art symbolizing core human values.

  • Installation of an Information Board: A project board explaining the concept and meaning of each bench for the community.

  • Creative Wellbeing Sessions & Celebration Event: A series of art-therapy workshops followed by a festive community grand opening of the "Avenue of Wishes".

🤝 Community Strength & Inclusivity

This project was created to reduce social isolation, support mental health, and assist women, single parents, individuals with disabilities, and anyone seeking warm, friendly connection. All of our sessions are free of charge, fully accessible, and accompanied by translation support for all participants.
